Mount Townsend

Olympic Peninsula

updated 1 week ago

As of early August 2026, Mount Townsend's trail is in excellent condition with no significant snow. Reports from July and August indicate the trail is well-maintained, with smooth switchbacks and only minor obstacles like a few gravelly sections near the summit. Wildflowers were abundant in July, and some may still be present.

Parking at the upper trailhead can fill up, especially on weekends. The forest service road to the upper lot is generally manageable for sedans, though some sections are narrower and may have potholes. Navigation is recommended as cell service is unreliable. The bathroom at the upper lot was noted as temporarily closed in mid-July due to pumping needs. Hikers should be prepared for windy and cooler conditions at the summit, even on sunny days, and bring layers.
